Sing for Hope Piano, 2019

It was such a wonderful experience to be able to paint another Sing for Hope Piano this year! My theme this year:

WE ALL LIVE HERE, TOGETHER

We all live here together, was created in response to the 2016 electionand its aftermath in our country, reflecting in our city. We have but one earth, all share this beautiful counrty, and reside in one of the greatest cities, New York.Together we need to overcome our differences and work towards a more enterprising future for all. The piano reflects a feeling of grittiness, a bit off kilter, the constant chaosof living here. All in a state of constant flux, ever-changing. The future feels a bit too close, and always in a state of evolution.

It is such a wonderful program. They select 50 artists a year and provide them with a place to paint in, as well as all the supplies. This one is located in NYC, but I bet it will keep growing and extend into other cities.

Sing for Hope Pianos

The Sing for Hope Pianos places artist-designed pianos throughout NYC’s parks and public spaces for anyone and everyone to play. Each summer, the pianos bring individuals and communities together in an open festival of art for all. After their time on the streets, Sing for Hope transports the instruments to NYC public schools, where they become hubs for Sing for Hope’s ongoing creative programs and enrich students’ lives for years to come.

Generations to come should be pissed!

What is our end plan for planet earth, and how can we possibly keep it from happening?

From the series: No One Lives Here Anymore
We need to stop mass consumption. We need to eliminate plastic from our packaging. We need to consider our children’s future, and their children’s. We cannot continue to live as if we have endless resources. We know that each year more animals become extinct. We wonder why bears are in our backyards, when in fact it is their homes we are encroaching in on.  The fish we eat are being poisoned by us, as are our vegetables we grow. We are poisoning our waterways, our oceans. We are simply killing ourselves off.

Where is our humanity? Our politicians do not care; they are mostly controlled by greed. Take all you can get, victims are an inevitability. Who are the watchdogs, where is the moral fiber?
Can we save ourselves? It is up to the next generation to put their foot down and demand that big businesses take responsibility for their greed. For taking over our waterways, to sell bottled water back to us, which should be watering crops down the river. For cheating the people who invest in mortgages, insurance, and end of life care. Where is the compassion, the decency? Does tuition need to be so expensive? Student loans so unforgiving?

What is our survival plan? Just keep on breathing, until it is no longer safe to take your next breathe.

Or...

Live in harmony with nature...

Journey to Barcelona, 2019

A wedding brought me to Barcelona this summer. Thankful for a reason to return to a city I had previously only spent a day in.  Below are some photos from this experience.  One thing I missed last time is seeing the Sagrada Família, designed by Gaudi. I did get to tour an apartment building he also designed on the previous trip. The roof had these wonderful chimneys that looked very alienesque.

The Sagrada Familia, begun in 1882, still under construction today.

New Works on Paper

I love working on paper. Something about the texture, the feel, the smell...
I have been scrounging through Strand's bookstore,
on the lookout for pages with beveled edges, or images that inspire.

Mimicking the lines, posture and emotion,
I create my own idea above the original.

Great Beach Finds!

Back in the Rockaways, where winter is coming to a close. With the weather warming up, still bundled up, we set out for the shore. I really embrace the adventure and surprises that the sea has in store for me.

My finds ~

A horseshoe crab close-up.
And a Sea Robin, missing half its body....

And, a human Robin....

Thank you for your visit!

Spring by the beach, Fort Tilden, The Rockaways

Needing some healthy salt air, off to the beach we sped. Apparently it was feeding time! Fascinated by the interactions and expressions these birds exhibited.

Spring at Green-Wood Cemetery, 2019

Walking through the cemetery with eyes peeled, my cohort Robin spotted a furry bunch nesting in a tree.

Off in the distance a pecking is heard. Off to find the bird.
Can anyone identify?

Crypts are peered into.

Only the loyal stand by for all eternity...

I love every walk through this magical place full of constant intrigue and mystery.

Enjoy  ~  Callie Art
